Boom Ravine was the name the British gave to a long Y-shaped ravine that snaked its way from near the village of Grandcourt, just south of Miraumomnt towards the high ground close to Courcelette.
17th February 1917. Boom Ravine (Miraumont). In the assault on Boom Ravine the 6th Northants were alongside 11th Royal Fusiliers with the 12th Middlesex in support.
The 6th Northants had 108 killed, 58 buried at Regina Trench and 48 named on the Thiepval memorial. The war diary gives no details which considering the casualties is strange. The Germans knew details of the attack from British deserters prior to the assault, but despite this the 18th Eastern Division men were able to push the Germans back and take the Ravine.
Most of the dead were buried in battlefield graves in the area and moved to Regina Trench in 1919.
